Former IPL chairman Lalit Modi, who is accused of financial irregularities in India, unleashed a harsh assault on Rahul Gandhi on Thursday, threatening to sue the senior Congress politician in the UK for his statement about the “Modi surname.”
Lalit Modi further chastised the Congress party for labelling him a “fugitive of justice” despite the fact that he had never been convicted of any crimes.
Lalit Modi also touted himself as the guy behind the “biggest athletic event in the world” in a series of tweets, saying that it had produced close to USD 100 billion.
“I see just about every Tom, Dick and Gandhi associates, again and again, saying I am a fugitive of justice. why? How? and when was I to date ever convicted of same,” reads the tweet.
“Unlike #Papu aka @RahulGandhi now an ordinary citizen saying it and it seems one and all opposition leaders have nothing else to do so they too are either ill-informed or just vendetta prone. I have decided to take the @RahulGandhi at least him to court in UK right away. I am sure he will have to come up with some solid evidence. I look forward to seeing him make a complete #fool of himself,” it says
Lalit Modi’s assault on Rahul Gandhi came roughly a week after the former Congress chairman was found guilty of criminal defamation and sentenced to two years in prison by a Surat court for his ‘Modi surname’ remark. Gandhi’s membership in Parliament has subsequently been revoked as a result of the conviction.
Lalit Modi accused numerous Congress MPs in his Twitter thread of being “bag men” for the Gandhi family and having “overseas assets.”
He also stated that he can offer the information.
Lalit Modi, who has been in the United Kingdom since 2010, has stated that he will return to India as soon as strict libel laws are enacted in the nation.
